The Naked Way is a dark, visionary story of love and loss in an underground counter-culture of sex, drugs and rock and roll. It follows a group of bright, talented, damaged young people from different backgrounds as they come of age in the underground rock music scene of the early 1990s. The Naked Way breathes new life into classic themes of youth rebellion and counter-culture for the next generation of readers. The story is driven by a cast of unforgettably vivid characters with big dreams. The book is full of sex and passion, but also deals with other intense issues: addiction, abusive relationships, rape, repressed memories, war, protest and suicide. From the backstreet underworld of a decaying American city to the mystical cathedrals of Italy, The Naked Way takes readers on an exhilarating journey of sensuality and emotion, creation and destruction, pain and redemption.
What can you tell us about your main characters?
Gwen – Witty, educated, and strikingly beautiful, Gwen comes from a wealthy family and has the world at her fingertips. Taking a trip away from home to “find herself,” she instead finds love on the wrong side of the tracks when she meets Eli. Beneath Gwen’s sunny façade, a dark secret has shattered her personality into a hundred jagged pieces. When true love finds her, will her painful past keep her from accepting it? Or can love put the pieces of her soul back together again?
Alexander is the charismatic, seductive lead singer of the brilliant underground rock band The Naked Way. His powerful vocals, brilliant lyrics and electric stage presence – part shaman / part snake-oil salesman – have brought The Naked Way to the verge of greatness and fame. Alexander has women at his feet and the future of rock and roll in his hands. His madness gives the music life – but can he control the primal energies that power the band and lead them to glory? Or will The Naked Way be destroyed by its own rock n roll excess?
Eli is a funny, carefree slacker who wants to be a writer…some day. For now he’s content to hang out with the band, be at the center of the party, and take all the prettiest girls to bed – until he meets Gwen. He says he’ll do anything to keep her love and to heal her pain. But will he be able to change his ways to win her heart?
Where can we find your book?

Where did you get the inspiration for this book?
The novels that influenced me the most were blazing, strange, totally subjective statements of unique personal visions of life. They didn’t try to please everyone. They may have originally been inspired by events in the author’s lives, or other books or works of art. But the artistry of their writing transformed them into little self-contained universes. Once you go in you come out the end a little bit different person. The best novels are bold, impossible personal documents of the soul. That’s the kind of book The Naked Way aspires to be. Whether or not it succeeds is up to the reader to decide.

How long did it take you to write this book?
I wrote a version of this book a long, long time ago, over the course of about three years. It had some merit but didn’t really measure up to what I wanted for the book. That was the first thing I ever wrote besides a paper for school and a few poems. Then I put it aside for more than fourteen years. A couple of years ago, the self-publishing revolution prompted me to think about revisiting it, and very quickly I had a new vision of how to “fix” the book. I rewrote it completely over the course of about 18 months to get the version of The Naked Way that has now been published.
What are your favorite TV shows?
Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock are great. Game of Thrones really pulled me in, despite my initial resistance. The Battlestar Galactica reboot was really brilliant, and so is Mad Men. During a time when I wasn’t working on my own creative writing, I got lessons in storytelling from The Wire, The Sopranos, and Six Feet Under.
Is there anything else you would like to say to your readers?
I promise that The Naked Way is like nothing else you’ve read. Think “Henry & June” meets “Sid and Nancy”…or “Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man” meets “No One Here Gets Out Alive.”
