Vacationing In Our Car

This morning I sat in front of the computer planning our first family vacation of the summer.  The planning made me think about a trip we took eleven years ago.  My oldest son was in Kindergarten and at the time had to have every moment of his day mapped out for him.  A few days before the trip we explained that we would pick him up from school and drive to Florida.  I provided him with a bag of books and games he could play during the trip and then explained we would drive throughout the night.  When he woke up the next morning, we would be in Florida.

The morning of the trip, he announced our vacation plans to his teacher and the class.  One of the kids asked where we were going. His response, “I don’t know but we’re sleeping in our car.”

The social worker met me at the sign out desk that afternoon asking questions about our vacation.  I had to explain that Bryan misunderstood the sleeping arrangements and assured her that we were staying with my in-laws, in their home.

The memory made me chuckle and I thought I’d share.   Whether your summer plans lead you across the country or keep you in the comfort of your own backyard, I wish you joyful memories with those you love.
